Rob Schmitt Elected to

Illinois Health and Hospital Association Board

 

CHICAGO – Rob Schmitt, Chief Executive Officer, Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services (GAHHS) in Gibson, has been elected to the Board of Trustees for the Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA). The IHA Board is the policymaking body for the Association, which represents more than 200 hospitals and nearly 40 health systems across Illinois. Schmitt’s three-year term began on Jan. 1, 2024.

 

“We are pleased to welcome Rob to the IHA Board,” said A.J. Wilhelmi, IHA President and CEO. “Rob is a proven leader with a wealth of knowledge and will be a great asset as we work together to guide healthcare policy in Illinois.”

With over 25 years in healthcare leadership, Rob joined GAHHS as the CFO in 2002. Rob was promoted to CEO in 2007. Rob is a Fellow of both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.  

 

He received his Master's in Business Administration from Webster University on their Fayetteville, Arkansas campus in 2001. Rob received his B.S. in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University in 1988.

 

He is also a Certified Public Accountant. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, Rob also serves the Illinois Provider Trust, Illinois Compensation Trust, IPT Cayman Board, and the Illinois Business Solutions Board.

 

He is a member of the Gibson City Lions Club, Gibson Area Service Organization (GASA), Gibson Area Chamber of Commerce, Ford County Knights of Columbus, and a GCMS volunteer high school football coach. In his spare time, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife, Linda, and their three children, Kate, Claire, & Brooks, and his two grandchildren. Rob is an avid sports fan, following the likes of the GCMS Falcons, Chicago Cubs, and Seattle Seahawks.
