Emergency Department
The emergency department (ED) at Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services (GAHHS) is a full-service emergency department staffed 24 hours a day by a physician* and registered nurse. Patient care is provided by an experienced staff of licensed, professional Registered Nurses who are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support for both adults and children.
Patients enter the emergency department at the south side of the hospital off of the Melvin street entrance. Wheelchairs and assistance are available at this entrance for those patients who need help entering the hospital.
The emergency department at GAHHS has the ability to care for a variety of medical emergencies. The new, state of the art emergency department has eight private rooms all equipped for any emergency. Bedside televisions are available for patient and family use. A negative air pressure room is available for patients requiring isolation and a decontamination room is located adjacent to the ambulance entrance.
GAHHS has transfer agreements with tertiary care hospitals in the area if your condition would require more specialized care. GAHHS works closely with these hospitals to ensure the care provided here, should transfer be necessary, will begin initial definitive treatment.
The GAHHS emergency department sees more that 5000 patients annually. Our experienced staff strives to provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the communities we serve.
*ED physicians are employees of All Inclusive Medical Services and provide care through a contract with Gibson Area Hospital.
