Kenna Dunlap Johnson has worked in the mental health field since 2004.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2005 from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and her Master’s in Social Work at the University Of Illinois School Of Social Work at Urbana Champaign in 2008, specializing in Community Mental Health.

Kenna has had training in crisis de-escalation, Theraplay attachment based therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy. She completed her graduate internship at The Pavilion in Champaign, Illinois, prior to graduating in 2008.  Kenna became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2010 when she received her clinical licensure after completing the required hours of clinical supervision and passing the Illinois social work board exam.  Kenna has worked in a hospital setting for 11 years as a specialist in the field of behavioral health.  The last 4 of those years have been with Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services.  Kenna’s experience includes working with inpatients and outpatients of all ages with a primary focus on children and older adults. 

Kenna earned her Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Illinois in 2012 and is currently pursuing her MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.  Kenna acts as the Director of Behavioral Health for Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services where she oversees behavioral health services between the Behavioral Wellness Center and Geriatric Behavioral Services. 

Along with working as a clinician and department director, Kenna serves as the East Central District Chair on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Social Workers’ Illinois Chapter.  Kenna was recently elected to this position for the 2015-2017 terms. 

Kenna grew up as an army brat moving several times as a child.  Her family returned to this area in the early ‘90s after her father started the Lincoln’s Challenge Academy in Rantoul.  She graduated from Blue Ridge High School in Farmer City.  Kenna is married and has two daughters, ages six and two. Kenna enjoys spending time with family and friends.
