Pulmonary Rehabilitation is an educational/exercise program designed to help individuals
with various forms of lung disease reduce risk factors, improve breathing techniques
and safely increase their exercise program.
It consists of 3 phases:
Phase 1
A progressive physical activity program begun at the patient's bedside to
alleviate deconditioning.
Phase 2
This phase combines monitored exercise and pulmonary education for patients
who have had a recent hospital admission or who has significantly impaired lung
function.
Phase 3
The final phase focuses on the continuation of an RN monitored, yet
dependent exercise/educational program.
