Wellness Programs
The following list contains services offered by Gibson
Area Hospital and Health Services. These services provide opportunities for wellness
promotion, disease prevention, support and education, and rehabilitation. The goal
of these services is to help you obtain your optimal quality of life throughout
your lifespan. These services may be free or billable to your insurance. Some of
them will require a doctor's order or referral.
Cardiac Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation - 217.784.2667
Cardiac Rehabilitations is an educational/exercise program designed to help individuals
with various forms of heart disease reduce risk factors and safely increase their
exercise program.
It consists of 3 phases:
Phase 1
Phase I of Cardiac Rehabilitation is completed during your hospital stay.
After Phase I, most patients go on to Phase II, a program combining progressive
exercise and education.
Phase 2
Phase II of Cardiac Rehabilitation consists of up to 12 weeks of exercise
and education, conducted on an outpatient basis.
Phase 3
Phase III is an intermediate RN monitored program designed to help transition
the participant from Phase II to an independent fitness program. Risk education
is continued during Phase III. Phase III is also available to those at high risk
for developing heart disease.

We offer CPR and/or first aid training by certified American Heart Association instructors.
Classes may be scheduled for groups or individuals.

Diabetes Education / Support Program

The Diabetes Education/ Support Program is for people with diabetes and meets the
2nd Thursday of each month, except for January and December. It's purpose is to
provide education on the nature of the disease, and monitoring and controlling the
disease. The support group provides those with diabetes and their family members
with an opportunity to share feelings, products, and personal questions with the
professional leader and other members of the group. The ultimate goal of the program
is to help those with diabetes obtain a better quality of life. For information,

Cancer Support Group

When confronting a major illness, loss or major lifechange, knowing that you are
not alone is important.
Our cancer support group is open to individuals touched by any type of cancer. The
group is being formed to help give patients, survivors and caregivers the support
and strength to move forward together, rather than on your own. The meetings will
be held the second Monday of every month. No RSVP is necessary.

Nutrition Services

Nutrition services provides a Registered Dietitian for medical nutrition assessment,
education and counseling. Available services include nutrition therapy for diabetes,
lipid management, weight management, weight loss management, GI disease, cancer,
osteoporosis, food allergies, IBS, supplementation, and lung disease. Nutrition
services are available to answer questions, concerns and to provide guidance for
nutrition through the life span. GAHHS also offers a Celiac Support Group.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation - 217.784.2667
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is an educational/exercise program designed to help individuals
with various forms of lung disease reduce risk factors, improve breathing techniques
and safely increase their exercise program.
It consists of 3 phases:
Phase 1
A progressive physical activity program begun at the patient's bedside to
alleviate deconditioning.
Phase 2
This phase combines monitored exercise and pulmonary education for patients
who have had a recent hospital admission or who has significantly impaired lung
function.
Phase 3
The final phase focuses on the continuation of an RN monitored, yet
dependent exercise/educational program.

Sitters

Safe Sitter® teaches adolescent babysitters how to handle crises, how to keep their
charges secure, and how to nurture and guide a young child. In short, Safe Sitter®
babysitters help children stay safe and sound while their parents are away. In the
process, these 11-to 13-year-olds emerge as more confident, responsible and compassionate
teens and adults. Their instructors thrive on making a difference in the lives of
these adolescents and the children in their care. And their sponsoring Safe Sitter®
site enjoys the benefits of developing a positive relationship with its community's
youth and families.

Gibson Are Hospital's Therapy Services offer a variety of rehabilitation options.
These include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy.
