Gibson Area Hospital Auxiliary Names Scholarship Winners

The Gibson Area Hospital (GAH) Auxiliary awarded nine Heath Care Career Scholarships at their Spring Banquet on Monday, April 25, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson City.

The Verna Buck Scholarships were presented to Sierra Mowery, Nora Snyder, and Taylor Zirkle. Sierra, the daughter of Cynthia Mowery of Fairbury, plans to attend SIU-Edwardsville in the fall to major in nursing and pursue work in pediatrics. Nora will attend Parkland College to study in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Nora is the daughter of Randy Snyder and Molly Delaney and a senior at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School. Taylor, the daughter of Mark and Beth Zirkle from Gilman, is currently a nursing student at Olivet Nazarene University. She plans to continue her studies to become a nurse anesthetist.

Corey Fields and Zachary Johnson were awarded the GAH Auxiliary Scholarships. Corey, the son of Robert and Terry Fields of Gibson City, is a sophomore nursing student at Illinois State University and plans to follow an education track to become an Advanced Practice Nurse. Zachary will attend Illinois State University this fall to major in nursing. He is the son of Eric and Amy Johnson of Gibson City.

The Dr. Christine Medrano Scholarship was awarded to Kyle Brauman, the son of Matt and Laura Brauman of Fairbury. Kyle will attend Southern Illinois University to major in Personal/Athletic Training and minor in Dietitics.

Corbin Riecks was named the recipient of the William and Viola Garrett Scholarship. Corbin will attend the University of Pennsylvania to major in Biological Basis of Behavior and would like to participate in research to cure Alzheimer’s disease.

The Arthur and Ane Jensen Noland Scholarship was presented to Tessa Pilcher of Roberts. Tessa is married to Brad Pilcher, and they have a four month old son. She is currently a graduate student at Concordia University in Wisconsin majoring in occupational therapy.

Alexis Lynn Brucker, a certified nursing assistant at the Gibson Area Hospital Annex, received the Juanita Boyce Scholarship. The daughter of Bruce Brucker and Michelle Kietzman of Gibson City, Alexis will study nursing at Heartland Community College in the fall.

The CEDF Scholarship winner was Mariah Sue Steidinger, the daughter of Roger and Sheila Steidinger of Forrest. Mariah will also attend Heartland Community College in the fall to major in nursing.

Samantha Lee Head received the Gift Shop Scholarship. Samantha is the daughter of Jamie Nigg of Fisher and a senior at Fisher High School. She will attend Carl Sandberg College as an x-ray technology student.

Since 1952, the GAH Auxiliary members have been active in volunteering their time and efforts to GAHHS. The Auxiliary’s mission is to serve GAHHS through raising funds and volunteering. Over 200 men and women from the hospital service territory are currently Auxiliary members.
