UPDATE:  IMPORTANT INFORMATION from the Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Information Task Force

Following is an update from the Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services Covid-19 Coronavirus Information Task Force:

Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services is working diligently to provide the safest healthcare environment possible to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our patients.

If you feel you have Covid-19 (coronavirus) symptoms, and wonder if you should be tested or seen by a healthcare provider, STAY HOME and call your doctor’s office or GAHHS at 217-784-4251 and ask to speak to a Covid-19 Information Nurse.

 

Unless it is a medical emergency, in order to reduce the risk of catching or spreading illness, stay home if you are sick, Call your doctor’s office or GAHHS at 217-784-4251, describe your symptoms over the phone and answer questions to determine your risk.  Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions.  Based on the answers to your screening questions, you will receive instructions over the phone and be told if you need to be evaluated or what to do next.

 

SERVICES THAT ARE CURRENTLY SUSPENDED OR CANCELLED:

  • All support groups.
  • Gibson Dental Health is only open for already scheduled urgent and new emergent patients.
  • The Annex is closed to all visitors.
  • The Cafeteria will be closed to the general public.
  • The Gift Shop will be closed.
  • Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab is cancelled.
  • Aqua Therapy is cancelled.
  • All Elite locations are closed.
  • The Step-Down program is cancelled.
  • Paxton Wellness is closed.
  • Valet (Golf Cart) Services are suspended.
  • Central Business Office is closed to the public.

 

These restrictions are subject to change and may be extended if necessary.

 

As always, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or come to the Emergency Room Immediately.

 

VISITOR RESTRICTIONS:

Effective immediately, through at least March 31, 2020, Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services has implemented new visitor restrictions in order to minimize the impact and spread of COVID-19. These actions are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients, staff and our communities.

 

Please do not come to GAHHS unless you are seeking immediate medical care or have a regularly scheduled appointment.

 

You may only enter the facility through the Main Lobby entrance or the Emergency Department entrance.  All other entrances are closed.

 

All incoming patients and visitors will be screened upon arrival and in the interest of patient safety, any visitor with a temperature of more than 100 F will not be permitted to enter the facility unless seeking treatment.

 

VISITORS ARE RESTRICTED TO:

  • No children under the age of 12
  • Only one visitor per patient at any time.
  • Surgery patients, ED patients, OB patients, and Outpatient Services patients should limit the number of support members that accompany them to the facility to one, when possible.
  • Exceptions may be made in certain situations.

 

ALL VISITORS and NON-EMERGENT PATIENTS SHOULD:

• Check in at the Main Entrance or ED Entrance before visiting inpatients to verify the purpose of the visit • Always remain in patient room as appropriate • Limit movement within the hospital and avoid common areas • Be free from illness such as (fever, sore throat, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, or runny nose)

 

ALL EMERGENT PATIENTS: Report directly to the ED.

 

These restrictions are subject to change and may be extended if necessary.

 

All visitors/caregivers are required to wash hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand foam/gel upon entering and exiting a patient’s room. We understand these visitor restrictions may be difficult for you. While we are committed to providing a family-centered care environment, right now restricting visitors is in the best interest of our patients, employees and communities.
