GAH Auxiliary Names Scholarship Winners

The Gibson Area Hospital (GAH) Auxiliary awarded nine Heath Care Career Scholarships at their Spring Banquet on Tuesday, April 22nd, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson City.

The Verna Buck Scholarships were presented to Emily Elder and Katrina Clements. Emily, daughter of Jeff and Cheryl Elder of Elliott, plans to study nursing next fall in the nursing program at Illinois State University. She has been active throughout her high school career with academics, sports, volunteer work, and mission trips.

Katrina Clements is currently in her second semester at Parkland College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and plans to continue her education to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and looks forward to working at GAHHS in the fall. Katrina is married to Ryan and has a daughter, Harlow.

Erin Ifft, daughter of Matthew and Susan Ifft of Forrest, was also named a Verna Buck Scholarship recipient. Erin is entering the nursing program at Olivet Nazarene University in the fall. She is a currently a CNA co-op student working at the Prairie Family Medical Center in Forrest.


The GAH Auxiliary Scholarships were awarded to Brianne Edelman and Alexandria Nettleton. Brianne, daughter of Kirk and Myra Edelman, will attend Parkland College in the fall to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Radiology. She is also a CNA and works at Prairie Family Medical Center in Forrest.

Alexandria, the daughter of Aaron and April Nettleton of Gibson City, plans to attend Bradley University in the fall to study nursing. In addition to her role as a CNA and a junior auxiliary volunteer at the hospital, she has been active in school activities including music, Interact, Project Ignition, cheerleading, and dance team.

The Dr. Christine Medrano Scholarship was awarded to Nick Retherford, son of Dean and Sue Retherford of Gibson City. Nick is currently a student at Millikin University majoring in athletic training and a member of the school’s football team. He has worked at GAH as a Physical Therapy tech and as an athletic training observer at Millikin.

Victoria Gaesser received the William and Viola Garrett Scholarship. The daughter of Keith and Susan Gaesser of Gibson City, Victoria was a volunteer at the GAH Annex as an activities assistant for 3 years and presently works in the Annex in the same capacity as part of her school training. She is a Junior Auxiliary member, was named Junior Citizen of the Year, and is very active in sports and volunteer work.

Lauren Nagle, daughter of Jeffrey and Barbara Nagle of Gibson City, won the Arthur and Ane Jensen Noland Scholarship. Lauren happens to be the great, great granddaughter of Arthur and Ane Jensen Noland. Lauren will be pursuing her BSN at Illinois State University in the fall. A Junior Auxiliary member, Lauren has also been active in sports, academics, and other volunteer work.

The Juanita Boyce Scholarship was awarded to Corey Fields, son of Robert and Terry Fields of Gibson City. Corey plans to become a nurse practitioner and will enter Heartland College this fall to begin his education. Corey is a Junior Auxiliary member and is currently working as a CNA in the Annex. He has been very active in volunteer services, church, and academics.

Since 1952, the GAH Auxiliary members have been active in volunteering their time and efforts to GAHHS. The Auxiliary’s mission is to serve GAHHS through raising funds and volunteering. Over 200 men and women from the hospital service territory are currently Auxiliary members.
