If you have diabetes and would like to meet with others who understand firsthand what you are going through, consider attending the GAHHS Diabetes Support Group. Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of the month (except December and January) from 7 pm to 8 pm at the GAHHS Education Center (209 E 8th Street, GC). We provide an open environment for learning and sharing ideas, concerns, and feelings about living with diabetes. No registration is required – feel free to show up and get the support you need!
Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support (DSMES)
Diabetes is a disease that changes over time, and with each change comes the need for new knowledge, skills, and adjustments in your management plan. Being proactive when changes occur keeps you on track to maintain your overall health. The good news is, there’s help for you!
GAHHS has a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) with the experience, special knowledge, and skills to help you successfully manage all aspects of your diabetes. It is recommended that people with diabetes see a CDCES at these key times:
- When you’re diagnosed with diabetes
- At least once per year or when you are struggling to meet your care goals
- When new complicating factors arise
- During changes in your life and care
