Hospital’s John Currier Wins National Election

Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services’ (GAHHS) John Currier, CPAM, has been elected as a National Officer for American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM). From 2012 to 2013 Mr. Currier will hold the position of 2nd Vice President. As 2nd VP Mr. Currier is responsible to direct the areas of the Constitution and Bylaws, Practices and Standards, and Government Relations.

“With AAHAM I have a vast network across the country that I can utilized for education, certification, networking, and advocacy for GAHHS, said Currier. “AAHAM is a great organization and has been a big factor in my career advancement in Revenue Cycle Management.”

Mr. Currier was hired on at (GAHHS) in July 2009 as the Patient Financial Manager. Currently, he holds the position of Executive Director of Revenue Cycle Management.

The AAHAMis the premier professional organization in healthcare administrative management. AAHAM was founded in 1968 as the American Guild of Patient Account Management. Initially formed to serve the interests of hospital patient account managers, AAHAM has evolved into a national membership association that represents a broad-based constituency of healthcare professionals.

The Certified Patient Account Manager exam is every bit as challenging for patient account managers as the CPA and bar exams are for their respective fields. Sitting for this eight hour exam takes commitment and dedication. That's one of the reasons it is so prestigious in our industry. For over 25 years the Professional Certification exam has set the standard of excellence in patient accounting. Mr. Currier received his CPAM certificate in 2008 and has been actively involved in the Illinois Chapter of AAHAM since 1991. He has served as Illinois’ Membership Chair, Chapter President, and Chairman of the Board, in 2009 he received a lifetime membership award, and in 2010 and 2011 he served as the National AAHAM Treasurer.

Mr. Currier and his wife Diane live in Gibson City and have four children and eight grandchildren.
