Infection Control

One of the National Patient Safety Goals is to reduce the number of nosocomial infections (hospital acquired infections). This is everyone’s job and the Infection Control Department leads the way in the prevention and control of infections for the well-being of patients, healthcare workers and visitors.

Each department at GAHHS is conscientious of their role in the prevention of hospital acquired infections. GAHHS’ Infection Control Nurse monitors the hospital departments and employees closely to ensure a safe environment for those at the hospital. The infection control nurse is in contact with hospital employees and departments daily to achieve their goal. The Infection Control Nurse has special training and knowledge regarding infection control and is certified in this.

When you are a patient be sure that the staff caring for you washes their hands before and after they perform a procedure. They may also use the alcohol gel to clean their hands.

If you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your hand and then discard the tissue and wash your hands.
