A Registered Pharmacist is on call 24/7 for questions that arise after hours and to handle emergency situations.

The hospital pharmacy is responsible for dispensing medications and compounding intravenous fluids for hospital patients. The hospital pharmacy is automated using computers and a dispensing system called “Pyxis” to assist with the safe delivery of medications. These systems allow for drug interaction checks, allergy checks, and availability of most medications directly to the nursing units. In addition to the dispensing function, the pharmacy is very active in nursing education related to safe medication practices, patient education relating to their medications, admission medication reconciliation, and providing recommendations to physicians and providers.

After normal pharmacy hours, all new medication orders are received by our after hours pharmacy service. Orders are reviewed by a Registered Pharmacist, verified, and profiled for the nurses prior to administration of the first dose.

Our scope of service does not include dispensing medications to the general public.

The pharmacy is active with the community providing lectures and participation in various other health activities.

If you need to contact the hospital pharmacy please call Kelsey Sandsmark, PharmD, Director of Pharmacy at 217-784-2697.
