â Improving the health of the population
â Enhancing the patient experience of care
â Reducing or controlling the per capita cost of care
This year, there were 3 finalists with one quality award given in two categories: urban hospitals/health systems and rural/critical access hospitals. Award recipients needed to achieve measurable and meaningful progress in advancing one or more elements of the Institute of Medicine’s six aims for improvement - safety, effectiveness, timeliness, efficiency, equity and patient centered care. There were more than 60 applicants. The submissions(s) were reviewed by 30 experts in quality. GAHHS winning entry was titled, “Medication Variance Reduction”. Strategies were addressed and implemented to prevent medication errors thereby reducing or helping to control cost of care, enhance the patient experience by preventing longer patient stays and undue patient discomfort and harm. Data was submitted for the previous year to substantiate our reduction.
