“Fore the Hospital” Golf Outing Shines for Silver Anniversary

The Silver Anniversary for the Gibson Area Hospital (GAH) Foundation 2014 Golf Outing on Thursday, July 10th,was a shining example of the organization’s mission to support excellence in healthcare programs and services for a healthy community. Volunteers from the Foundation and across the organization have polished this event to be a perennial success, and in its 25th year, there was nothing in the air to tarnish the pattern—and a gleaming hole-in-one from Champaign native Tim Hoss, Jr. only added more luster to the celebration.

Trophies for the outing were awarded for Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Divisions in both AM and PM flights. In the morning flight, the first place men’s team was Patrick Bean, Michael Schwenk, Dustin White, and Christian Rosenbeck (60). In second place was the team of Matt Clark, Mike Tilstra, Craig Gocken, and Dennis Wiley (62), while Doug Schultz, Mark Spangler, Dan Kearfott, and Dave Brown (63) scored a third place finish.

Rob and Linda Schmitt, Mike Meunier, and Karen Christensen (68) took first place in the Mixed Division, with second place in the same division going to Carrie Rieck, Bill Kirby, Josh Bond, and Courtney Ryan (69).

This year Dustin White took home the trophy for the AM Longest Drive, Dan Warner for AM Longest Putt, and Clinton Charles for AM Closest to the Pin honors. New award categories added this year included AM Senior Longest Drive, won by Craig Gocken, and AM Women’s Longest Drive, earned by Bev Jensen.

The PM flight proved to maintain its competitive nature with 39 teams competing for first place. The Men’s Division first place team was Ron Woolums, Tom Kearfoot, Jim Mounce and Al Beck (53). Second place was taken by Mark Gasala, Chuck Gawthorp, Clint Johnson, and Josh Petersen (58). Bringing in third place for the Men’s Division was Dr. George Bark, Kyle Bloomstrand, Chris Engelbrecht, and Tim Hoss, Jr. (59). Hoss also gave an amazing ace performance at the 17th Hole, earning him a set of golf clubs from the GAH Foundation for his hole-in-one that also established a space for himself on the club’s wall of fame.

The first place of the Mixed Division was narrowly captured by Rod and Brenda Mott and Tyler and Michelle Mott (59) with a close second place going to Mike and Deb Estes and Mark and Julie Welborn.

First place for the Women’s Division was awarded to Team Dr. Chris Dangles (74) which included Laura Brinkley, Danielle Brucker, Amy Matlock, and Ashley Reum. Second place was earned by Amanda Davis, Jessica Delost, Stephanie Johnson, and Kristin Salyards.

For individual achievements in the afternoon, Al Beck took the PM Closest to the Pin honors, Rusty Tobey had the PM Longest Putt, and Jeff White received the trophy for the Longest Drive. The new award for Senior Longest Drive went to Lee Elliott, and Ann Spangler was recognized for the Women’s Longest Drive.

The GAH Foundation expressed its appreciation for all of the 2014 golf outing sponsors, participants, and volunteers. Scott Reynolds, Foundation Chairperson, summed up the event, “The weather was fantastic, the food was great, everyone had a great time, and the Foundation was able to raise funds to support the hospital for years to come. What more could we ask for?”
