GAH Auxiliary Awards 11 Scholarships at this year Spring Banquet

This year the Gibson Area Hospital (GAH) Auxiliary awarded 11 scholarships, three more than the previous year, at their annual Spring Banquet.

This year three Verna Buck Scholarships were awarded. The first went to Bernadette Strong, daughter of John and Monique Strong of Fairbury. She will be attending Parkland College in the fall in the pursuit of a nursing degree. Bernadette is currently working at OSF St. Joseph Hospital as a CNA.

The second Verna Buck Scholarship was given to Alexis Triplett, daughter of Joe Triplett and Deb Timm. She has worked at GAH for the past six years and is currently a CNA/Unit Secretary. She will be attending Heartland College to get a degree in nursing.

Corrie Swenson, of Paxton, received the third Verna Buck Scholarship. She is married to Eric Swenson, an Iraqi war veteran, and has two children, William (5) and Oliver (4). Corrie is a CNA/Unit Secretary with the GAH Behavioral Wellness Clinic and plans to attend Parkland College to get a degree in nursing.

The CEDF Scholarship was awarded to Sheila Strickland of Loda. Sheila is married to Daniel and has three children, one of whom is earning her nursing degree. She is currently attending Parkland College to obtain her LPN degree.

Courtney Gramley, of Gibson City, received one of the two Auxiliary Scholarships. She is the daughter of Jim and Joan Gramley and is currently attending Eastern University in an effort to become a physical therapist.

The other Auxiliary Scholarship was awarded to Erin Tabor, daughter of Steven and Beth Tabor of Gibson City. Erin will soon be working towards a degree in physical therapy. Erin was also named Junior Citizen of the Year in March.

The William and Viola Garrett scholarship was given to Hannah Pruitt, daughter of James and Kelli Pruitt of Gibson City. Hannah will be attending Utah State in pursuit of a Doctorate in Occupation Therapy.

Abby Selleck was this year’s recipient of the Dr. Christine Medrano Scholarship. She is the daughter of Jeff and Liz Selleck of Paxton. She will be attending SIU or Indiana State majoring in Biology. Abby’s career goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Alexis Brucker was chosen to receive the Juanita Boyce Scholarship. She plans to attend the nursing program at Heartland College. She wants to become a CRNA.

This year’s Arthur and Ane Jensen Noland Scholarship was given to Tessa Pilcher of Roberts. Tessa is married to Brad Pilcher and attends Concordia University of Wisconsin. She is currently working to become an occupational therapist.

The Gift Shop Scholarship was given to Mindy Rogers, daughter of Jeff and Shannon Rogers of Fisher. She will be attending the nursing program at ISU next fall.
