Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services (GAHHS) was honored at the Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) Quality Advocacy Showcase on April 12, 2018, at the Illinois State Capitol Rotunda in Springfield. Representing GAHHS were Sue Johnson, RN, Documentation Coordinator; Mae Eichelberger, RN, BS, Infection Prevention/Employee Health; and Barb Meyer, RN, MSN, Executive Director of Nursing. Gibson Area Hospital was one of 91 hospitals in attendance to participate in the showcase.
This third annual event highlighted Illinois hospitals and health systems making a positive impact on their communities while reducing healthcare costs, demonstrating the statewide commitment to patient care improvement and safety strategies. Showcase categories included patient safety, infection prevention, care coordination, behavioral health, population health, and workplace safety.
The project presented by Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services cited positive results for implementation of a process to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections. The showcase provided GAHHS representatives an opportunity to inform key state legislators of quality improvement work happening at GAHHS as well as reinforce the crucial role that state government plays in ensuring high quality healthcare in Illinois. A poster produced by the IHA to visually communicate the project results will be on display at the hospital.
