National Rural Health Day 2022!

November 16, 2022

National Rural Health Day 2022!

The Power of Rural!  Today is National Rural Health Day!  This year, Rural Health Day highlights the importance of the Power of Rural.

In 1952, the vision of a hospital serving rural communities became a reality.  On November 3, 1952, Gibson Community Hospital began the mission of providing personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the communities we serve.  70 years later, the mission and vision continue at Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services (GAHHS). Bringing state-of-the-art healthcare to the communities we serve remains our passion.  Access to healthcare in rural America has historically been a challenge, but GAHHS is answering that challenge by growing and providing services and specialties not normally found in rural healthcare settings.

GAHHS is located in Gibson City, IL, Ford County. We provide healthcare to patients from eight surrounding counties, including Ford.

Last year, GAHHS provided access to over 190,334 lab tests, 2,857 surgeries, 23,963 Radiology Exams, 5,591 Emergency Visits, 31,686 outpatient visits, 120,000 clinic visits, and served over 800 zip codes!  GAHHS provided $1.6million in free and discounted care for those in need.

Access to Maternity Care is a rising challenge throughout America, especially in RURAL areas, but GAHHS remains committed to maintaining access to maternity care in the rural communities we serve, having just set a new record for deliveries with 268 babies born! GAHHS has six board-certified Family Practice/Obstetric Care Physicians.  We provide maternal healthcare services in eight locations within four counties.  In addition, GAHHS provides the Women, Infants, Children (WIC Program in Ford County).

Recognizing the need for dental health in many rural areas, GAHHS is one of the first hospitals to open a dental clinic, providing comprehensive oral care, accepting Illinois Medicaid, and offering financial assistance based on a patient’s ability to pay.

GAHHS continues to invest in helping our communities achieve the healthiest possible lifestyle by providing lifestyle initiatives like addressing the Opioid crisis head-on with addiction medicine and Smart Recovery Support Groups, Diabetes education, and support groups with a focus on dietetics.

The need for Oncology services is on the rise and GAHHS is pleased to welcome Dr. Sohail Chaudhry, Oncology/Hematology to GAH Oncology Clinic and Infusion Center, located in the NEW Medical Office Building.  The Medical Office Building opened officially in August of 2022 in order to address the need for space to continue expanding our health services.  A state-of-the-art, 31,000 sq. ft., $12.5 million dollar building, that is now home to critical specialty services for the communities we serve!

GAHHS remains committed to bringing access to the most abundant healthcare services possible for our rural communities, including, but not limited to: Addiction Medicine, Adult Medicine, Advanced Wound Healing, Behavioral Wellness/Psychiatry, Cardiology, Cosmetic/Reconstructive Surgery, Dental Health, Emergency Medicine, Elite Fitness, Family Medicine, Geriatric Care, Internal Medicine, Interventional Radiology, Long Term Care, Maternity Care, ENT/Otolaryngology, General Surgery, Neurology, Oncology/Hematology/Infusion Center, Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopaedic Spine Surgery, Pain Management, Podiatry, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery Options, Therapy Services (Aqua, Pediatric, Physical, Occupational, Speech), Vascular Surgery, Urogynecology, Urology.
